Dr. Karen Kennemur received her PhD in Childhood Education at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary where she serves as Associate Professor of Children’s Ministries at SWBTS. Karen received her M.A. in Christian Education at SWBTS and a Bachelor of Business Administration from Baylor University. She has served at various churches in Texas as a preschool and children’s minister and also began a private preschool which later expanded into a Christian private elementary school.
Karen is currently one of the writers of the Southern Baptist of Texas Convention Family App, writing the devotionals for families of preschoolers and children. She was a contributing author in the textbook The Teaching Ministry of the Church (editor—Dr. Rick Yount, 2008) She has written Sunday School, camp, and retreat curriculum. Karen, also works closely with the SBTC in training church leaders and writing curriculum. She speaks at churches and conferences on topics relating to parenting, mission trips for preteens and/or families, and preschool/children’s ministries. One of her favorite aspects of being a professor at SWBTS is mentoring students and preschool/children’s ministers. She also volunteers are The Warm Place, a grief support program for children. Karen works with the parents of preschoolers who have lost significant people in death. Another one of her passions is helping children and families grow in their love for Christ and becoming a vital part of the Christian community.
Dr. Kennemur lives in Grand Prairie, Texas with her husband of 32 + years, Danny Kennemur. They have three children, two daughter-in-laws, and three grandchildren. Danny and Karen attend MacArthur Blvd Baptist Church in Irving, TX.
