Christopher Teichler

Associate Professor of Music Theory and Composition

 

Dr. Christopher Teichler joined the Southwestern Faculty in the Fall of 2012.  Prior to coming to Southwestern, Dr. Teichler has served on the faculties of DePaul University, Trinity International University and Wheaton College.  His teaching background includes courses in music theory and composition, as well as instrumental conducting.  

Dr. Teichler earned his Bachelor of Music degree in Composition from Wheaton College, and his Master of Music and Doctor of Music degrees in Composition from Northwestern University.  He has studied composition privately with Howard Whitaker, Alan Stout, Steven Syverud, Don Owens, Jay Alan Yim and Amy Williams.  

Dr. Teichler has received awards for his music from the National Band Association, the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP),  the Elmhurst College Jazz Festival and Wheaton College.  He is regularly commissioned for works ranging from middle school groups through professional performers and ensembles.  His works are published by R.T. Legacy, Kjos Music, BRS Music, and Pelican Music Publishing.
