Thomas Davis

Professor of Archaeology and Biblical Backgrounds

Dr. Davis is an archaeologist with more than two decades of field experience in Cyprus, Egypt, Jordan, and the United States. A specialist in the New Testament world of Paul, he lived on the island of Cyprus for eight years. He currently directs the SWBTS excavations at the early Christian site of Kourion, Cyprus. An expert in the field of biblical archaeology, Dr. Davis published a history of the field entitled Shifting Sands: The Rise and Fall of Biblical Archaeology (Oxford Press, 2004). He has published numerous articles in the areas of New Testament archaeology, Cypriot archaeology, biblical archaeology, and American archaeology.

Dr. Davis spent many years as a professional archaeologist in the United States before becoming the director of the Cyprus American Archaeological Research Institute in Nicosia, Cyprus, one of the premier archaeological research centers in the Eastern Mediterranean. A popular speaker, Dr. Davis has lectured extensively in the U.S., Europe, the Middle East, Asia, Africa, and Australia. He is married to Jennifer L. Davis and they are members of Cana Baptist Church in Burleson, Texas.
