  • Todd J. MurphyPocket Dictionary for the Study of Biblical Hebrew.  N.p.:  InterVarsity Press, 2003. ISBN: 0830814582 Reference, read before 3rd semester.

Recommended Texts:

  • Todd J. MurphyPocket Dictionary for the Study of Biblical Hebrew (InterVarsity Press, 2003)
  • L. Koehler, W. Baumgartner, et al Hebrew and Aramaic Lexicon of the Old Testament (HALOT) (5 vols.) [available in LOGOS BIBLE SOFTWARE]. This will be utilized more in the second semester.
  • Logos Bronze Library is the minimum level you should get.  I have equivalent to the Gold and use it all the time for study and ministry (to order it by phone call 800-875-6467).  Beginning Fall 2012, first-year, incoming language students were all required to purchase/use Logos.  SWBTS students get a 50% discount for new libraries, and the upgrade price is 25%.  HALOT (Hebrew and Aramaic Lexicon of the Old Testament, by Koehler-Baumgartner), is the best Hebrew Lexicon (I will no longer require BDB but am now assigning HALOT) and is required.  I also recommend the German Bible Society Bundle Student Edition, because it includes the required BHS (SESB 2.0 edition) with critical apparatus among other good texts (but you should at the least get the BHS (SESB 2.0) as the form of the BHS used for Elementary Hebrew II and beyond.  We don’t get into the BHS seriously until second semester.  You may want to purchase the BDAG (Greek)/HALOT (Hebrew) lexicons at the same time to save money.  I know this is costly, but it is an investment in your ministry and will bear fruit as you learn to use it and have the capability to study/prepare having your library accessible wherever you go.
