Youth Ministry Lab

Student ministry students at Southwestern take the lead in planning the annual Youth Ministry Lab. This training and worship event draws more than 1,300 student ministers, volunteer leaders, and leadership teenagers to the campus. The 65+ students who create Youth Ministry Lab gain invaluable experience in managing large ministry events. Recent leaders have included Louie Giglio, Doug Fields, Charlie Hall, and Joel Engle.

Hands-on experience

Many of the 600+ SBC churches within an hour of Southwestern turn to the seminary when searching for paid or volunteer student ministry leadership. The student ministry professors take the initiative to help churches and Southwestern students connect with each other. Churches such as Prestonwood Baptist in Plano, Fellowship Church in Grapevine and Travis Avenue Baptist in Fort Worth offer students the opportunity to learn high-quality student ministry approaches by interning.

Doorway to a Ph.D.

The student ministry concentration in the School of Church and Family Ministries opens the door to entering the Ph.D. program in the same field. To date, every Southwestern Ph.D. graduate with a student ministry major teaches in the field or leads in student ministry for the denomination.
