Distinguished Criswell College professor, Southwestern alumnus James W. Bryant dies

FORT WORTH, Texas (SWBTS) – James W. Bryant, distinguished senior professor of pastoral theology at Criswell College and a two-time graduate of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, died June 11.

“Dr. Bryant was a beloved figure in Southern Baptist life,” said Steven Smith, vice president for student services and communications at Southwestern. “He served ably, faithfully and selflessly for many years. Those who knew him well grew to love his selfless nature. He will be missed.”

Bryant earned a Master of Divinity and Doctor of Theology from Southwestern. He pastored and ministered in churches in Texas, Arkansas, Georgia and New Mexico for more than 30 years, including First Baptist Church in Dallas from 1968-73.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, June 16, at 2:00 p.m. at Truett Chapel of First Baptist Dallas.
