Gold-medal winning Southwestern alumnus returns to England for 2012 Games

FORT WORTH, Texas (SWBTS) – Four years after winning gold in the 1948 Olympics in London, Jack Robinson graduated from Southwestern Seminary with his Bachelor of Divinity degree. Five years later, in 1957, he graduated with his Doctor of Theology degree from Southwestern and went on to pastor, serving at First Baptist Church of Augusta, Ga., where he launched the church’s television program in the 1950’s—something seen as progressive during that era.
 
This year, 64 years after playing on the medaling men’s basketball team, meeting the King of England, and representing the United States in the war-torn United Kingdom, Robinson returned to London for the 30th Olympiad—this time, as a spectator.
 
In an interview with the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Robinson, who has since retired from the pastorate, recalls his stint as an Olympic team member as if it began only three days ago, when the world watched the games open for the third time in London.
