International students welcomed at Houston campus

FORT WORTH, Texas (SWBTS) – International students with F-1 visas are now permitted to enroll for classes at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary’s J. Havard School for Theological Studies in Houston, Texas.

The Havard School is the seminary’s first extension campus to meet the requirements and get governmental permission for educating international students. According to Karen Stetson, director of international students, the seminary petitioned the government to allow international students on the Houston campus this May. The United States Homeland Security’s Student and Exchange Visitor Program expressed their approval on Nov. 24. Stetson and Hudson Hanks, registrar at the Houston campus, will oversee services for these students.

“I always believe that international students who come to Southwestern are getting one of the best theological bases for future ministry that they could get in any place,” Stetson said. She hopes the Havard School will draw students from the “large international community in Houston.” She also expressed excitement concerning the global impact these students can make for the cause of Christ.
