Three exciting speakers are scheduled to speak during chapel services at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Sept. 12-14. Chapel services are held in Truett Auditorium for one hour beginning at 10:50 a.m. every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday during the spring and fall semesters. The public and media are always welcome.
Tuesday, Sept. 12. Dr. Mitch Glaser, president, Chosen People Ministries, New York City.
According to the ministry’s Web site, www.chosenpeople.com, Glaser and his wife, Zhava, are Jewish believers in Jesus and have each labored for more than 20 years in ministry among the Jewish people. Their experience has taken them across North America and literally around the world from Israel to South Africa to Argentina -- but the Glasers have always had a burden for New York City. Glaser was born in Brooklyn and raised in New York. He became a believer in Yeshua in 1970, and graduated from Northeastern Bible College as well as Talbot School of Theology, where he earned a Ph.D. in Intercultural Studies. His dissertation topic was the history of missions to the Jews in the 20th Century.
Wednesday, Sept. 13. Dr. Ralph M. Smith, retired pastor, Hyde Park Baptist Church, Austin, Texas.
Dr. Smith is a much loved, well-respected Texas Baptist who has a long relationship with Southwestern Seminary. He is a two-time graduate (BD 1955, PhD 1960) and former trustee. He has been awarded the seminary’s Distinguished Alumni Award, L.R. Scarborough Award and B.H. Carroll Award. In 2000, Southwestern Seminary named its 130,000-square-foot Center for Leadership Development in his honor. Dr. Smith was called by Hyde Park Baptist Church as pastor in June 1960, and the church entered its greatest period of growth in Sunday School and worship attendance during his pastorate. For 36 years, until an illness brought about his retirement in 1995, Dr. Smith led Hyde Park to grow, expand its ministries in every way, and start the Hyde Park Baptist Foundation.
Thursday, Sept. 14. Dr. Frank S. Page, president, Southern Baptist Convention.
Since 2001, Dr. Page has been pastor of the 4,300-member First Baptist Church of Taylors, located in suburban Greenville County, N.C. He has an MDiv and PhD from Southwestern Seminary. His speaking experience includes revivals, Bible conferences, family life conferences, lecture series at colleges and seminary chapels, and evangelism training conferences across the nation and overseas. His speaking engagements have taken him around the world to such places as Germany, Norway, Mexico, Israel, Ecuador, Australia, Nigeria, Brazil, Canada, and Africa. He has also taught adjunctively for both Southeastern and Southwestern seminaries. Dr. Page has written several books and articles including a commentary on the book of Jonah, and “Advanced Continuing Witness Training” material. See the “President’s Page” link at www.sbc.net for more information about Dr. Page.
