Southwestern dedicates Moore Orchestra Rehearsal Room

FORT WORTH, Texas (SWBTS) – Together with a group of 33 couples and individuals, Tom and Marsha Ramsey provided a gift for the J.W. MacGorman Chapel to fund the building of the Gary and Kristi Moore Orchestra Rehearsal Room dedicated Dec. 1 during the seminary’s production of Christmas at Southwestern.

Gary Moore, named a distinguished alumnus in 2008, is an accomplished musician who currently serves at Second Baptist Church of Houston. Moore has written, produced and directed at least 13 musicals and has composed more than 200 songs, one of which he co-wrote with Michael W. Smith.

“I felt like the things that the seminary equipped me to do made all the difference in the world in the shape my ministry took,” Moore said.

“Just the building itself will be an inspiration for people when they get out and get ready to be involved in building a facility that accommodates what we try to do in presenting the Gospel, whether in spoken message or in music. It will be a great impact on generations to come.”

Tom Ramsey said the Moore’s have had their own impact in kingdom work—the very reason he and Marsha wanted to honor the couple by naming the rehearsal room for them.

“Gary and Kristi Moore are the most creative individuals in church music anywhere,” Ramsey said. “[Gary] has the most creative way to communicate the Gospel through drama and communicate the Gospel through music. As he defines it, ‘Let’s put a little joy in our pursuit of kingdom activities.’”

Ramsey said Southwestern needed the new chapel and knows the building will be used as an instrument to bring people to Christ.

“The campus is such a great place to have people come and visit and be exposed to things of the kingdom,” he said. “[The chapel] compliments everything else that’s on campus.”

The room includes framed posters and pictures from productions and worldwide choir tours the Moores have led during their ministry including memorabilia from their service at First Baptist Dallas.

Those underwriting the rehearsal room include Fred Aurbach, Keith and Rebecca Ayers, Edward and Barbara Barnes, Perry and Patsy Bolin, William Carl, Jr., Margaret Evans, Frederick and F.P.
