Longtime friend of Southwestern dies at 93

FORT WORTH, Texas (SWBTS) – Rose Billy Rankin, friend of Southwestern and active member of its Widows’ Might prayer ministry, died April 11, 2012, at the age of 93. Rankin is preceded in death by her husband Joe Dillard Rankin, two brothers and two sisters.

Rankin, who studied at Southwestern beginning in 1947, grew to love the seminary and later gave financially toward building the Horner Homemaking House. The back porch of the house bears her name.

Karen Collett, women’s auxiliary coordinator, says she remembers Rankin for her care for the seminary and for the active and vibrant life she led up until her death—even mowing her own lawn at age 90.

“Rose was so special to Southwestern,” Collett said. “She helped not only with the Horner Homemaking House, but she also invested in our Widows’ Might ministry, praying for our students and faculty.”
