Principal, refugees come to Christ

FORT WORTH, Texas (SWBTS) – Harvey Solganick and other Southwesterners welcomed school principal Alexis* (*name changed) as their new brother in Christ during outreach to the people of Kiev, Ukraine, May 28 – June 13. Solganick, a professor in the College at Southwestern, was encouraged by Alexis’ profession of faith, made when the group of 14 was leading backyard Bible clubs with the students of Alexis’ school.

Solganick also witnessed the baptism of two Iranian refugees at a local recreational area. “They had escaped death and were being born again into a new family,” Solganick said. “I realized I was now their brother in Christ. Just as they had a new life in Christ as new creatures, my Jewish family held a funeral for me when I became a Christian, and [I] discovered a whole new family in Christ.”

The local pastor who officiated the baptism invited those nearby to draw close and watch the ordinance, and the Christians were able to disperse among the crowd in order to witness. Solganick said he was hopeful that this public profession would encourage other refugees to follow Jesus.
