Letter opposing U.S. Embassy’s “gay pride” parade involvement garners Southwesterners’ support

FORT WORTH, Texas (SWBTS) – Southwestern President Paige Patterson and First Lady Dorothy Patterson are among nearly 120 leaders from 11 countries who signed a letter opposing the United States Embassy in the Czech Republic in its plans to participate in a “gay pride” parade in Prague Aug. 18.

The letter, sponsored by the World Congress of Families, an international agency committed to maintaining and restoring the family as the basic unit of society, explained the signers’ opposition to the United States government’s attempts to force citizens in countries with traditional values to go beyond respecting people of all persuasions, but to approve of lifestyles against which they have personal and religious convictions.

Former Arkansas governor and presidential candidate Mike Huckabee, who received Southwestern’s Distinguished Alumnus award in June, also signed his name to the letter, along with Richard Land, president of the Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission, for whom Southwestern’s Center for Cultural Engagement is named.
