Women In Service
Dear Sisters in Christ,
Titus 2:3-5 says, “Older women are … to teach what is good, so that they may encourage the young women to love their husbands and children, to be sensible, pure, good homemakers, and submissive to their husbands, so that God’s message will not be slandered.” This verse, along with Proverbs 31, is the foundation Southwestern Women in Service. We invite you to partner with as we support women who are preparing further God’s Kingdom.
My name is Karen Collett, and I have the privilege of coordinating the ministry efforts of Women in Service. Married for 23 years before the death of my husband in 1997, I became part of the Southwestern family in June 2007.I am a mother of three daughters and “Nana” to three wonderful grandchildren. Learning to lean on God and trust Him for His astonishing promises has been an ongoing process. He is a God of His Word!
Women who love and support our seminary come together from across the nation through Women in Service. This group provides a variety of ministry opportunities:
Women’s Auxiliary will give you a chance to support and encourage our female students or student wives. You will also receive a quarterly newsletter, In Lydia’s Steps, and will be invited to a fall and spring luncheon and fashion show.
If you love shopping and desire to mentor a student, you will enjoy the
Dressed for Service ministry. A sponsored woman is outfitted from head to toe—complete with outfit, purse, shoes and jewelry. “I feel like Cinderella” is one of the most common phrases we hear on our shopping days. We love to watch God at work as mentoring relationships spring forth between student and shopper.
Scholarships through both our Women’s Auxiliary and our Priscilla Scholarships make it possible for women to receive degrees from Southwestern.
Our newest ministry is all about prayer—designed with the widow in mind. Southwestern
Widows’ Might celebrated its first anniversary in March 2009. Members receive a monthly prayer newsletter and are able to read about what God is doing at Southwestern and in the lives of other widows.
Our prayer is that this Web site will help you catch the vision. Please take the time to read the descriptions of ministries available and see where you can plug in. We look forward to hearing from you. Many blessings as you serve our Lord in your daily walk.
With joy,
Karen Collett
