Professor Honored for Musical Composition
FORT WORTH, Texas (SWBTS) – Southwestern Seminary congratulates Mac Davis for receiving an ASCAPLUS award from the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP). Davis serves at Southwestern as a professor of music theory and composition and as associate dean for the performance division of the School of Church Music. He is also the chair of the music theory and composition department.
2008 marks Davis’ fifteenth year in a row to receive this honor for his musical composition writing. Stephen Johnson, dean of the School of Church Music, is pleased the prominent evaluators of ASCAP continually recognize Davis’ God-given talents. Johnson says, “This award, which he has received on many occasions, indicates his continual achievement and activity as a composer.”
Known internationally for his compositions, Davis began teaching at Southwestern Seminary in 1979. Currently, he and his wife, Barbara, are members at Southcliff Baptist Church, where Davis directs the church orchestra.
