Southwestern's libraries benefit all Southwestern students: local, extension, and distance. The library staff is committed to providing a high level of service for students enrolled in off-campus programs as they do for students in Fort Worth. The Southwestern library staff will help students with library resources for all research assignments.
This help occurs in several ways: lending directly to students from the Fort Worth campus libraries, providing email and telephone reference service, offering computer access to the library online catalog, and making cooperative arrangements with local libraries. Current students can access library resources online using the “Online Research” tab in any of their Blackboard courses.
If a student sends an email to Roberts Library directly for books or articles located in Roberts Library, in most cases the student will be contacted within twenty-four hours on how their request will be met. Roberts Library uses library rate to mail the books, and they will mail up to five per day until students reach their total book limit (30 for college/masters, 60 for doctoral).
Inter Library Loan
If the library cannot supply a copy of an article a student needs, it will request a copy from another library and send it to the student by mail or an email attachment. Students who need books that are not part of the library’s collection should place an interlibrary loan request through their local library. Even the smallest public libraries can provide this service. If this is not possible, please contact Roberts Library to discuss other options.
The seminary provides the electronic full text of articles, books, and dissertations at no additional charge to students. These resources are available through the databases in the library catalog’s Knowledge Portal. For help using these databases to find material for your research, please contact the library reference desk.
Roberts Library provides a wide range of services to support research-based writing. For help with writing the paper, send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org. Responses are normally sent within 24 hours or the following Monday. For more information about the Writing Center’s services, visit www.swbts.edu/writingcenter.
Library Online Catalog
The computer system is a convenient way for students to have access to library information at any time. The library catalog and the Knowledge Portal (databases) are online-based, so they offer the same services to students here in Fort Worth or anywhere in the world! Students can find this in their Blackboard courses under the “Online Research” tab. Students can also use the library catalog to renew books online through the Your Library Account option on the main menu. Your PIN is the four digits of your birth month and birthday (e.g., 0704]
If a student is a Texas resident, they may apply for a TexShare card. This card allows them to check out books from any library within the TexShare group. A student will be able to use their TexShare card to borrow or otherwise use that library’s resources. Students can visit www.tsl.state.tx.us/texshare/ to find a library located close to them. Each library within TexShare has different policies, but students will be able to find out specific information at their local library. Most libraries will require a valid picture ID to apply for a TexShare card.
