Dr. Patrick married Monica in 2006 and they have four amazing children: Susanna, Josiah, Nathaniel, and Seth. Monica is a preacher’s kid and former International Mission Board missionary to Nicaragua. Her link to Nicaragua continues via their family sponsoring several children in Nicaragua through Compassion. Their family is passionate about the church and missions.
He possesses a doctorate in general revelation (chemical and biomedical engineering) and a masters in special revelation (master of divinity). He has worked in higher education in different capacities since 1986.
Currently he serves as Vice President for Strategic Initiatives and Communications, and professor in the School of Theology at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary (SWBTS) and Scarborough College. Moreover, he serves as editor-in-chief of Theological Matters, executive editor of Southwestern News Magazine, and executive editor of Seminary Hill Press. He enjoys both aspects of his ministerial service, leading, teaching, and investing in the next generation of ministry leaders.
Before serving at SWBTS, he had the privilege of being a research scientist, department chair, and professor at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center for 13 years and enjoyed adjunct positions at Rice University, University of Texas at Austin, and University of Texas Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences. His field of research was tissue engineering – regrowing tissues and organs for patients who are ravaged by cancer – and integrated the disparate fields of reconstructive surgery, polymer science, nanotechnology, cell and tissue culture technologies, digital imaging at the intracellular to cellular level, and mathematical modeling. God called him to full time vocational ministry service in 2008, to use his executive leadership and his love for the church to advance the Great Commission through SWBTS and her graduates.
His hobbies include reading, carpentry, photography, and the outdoors.
