Dr. James has served in the Office of the Executive Vice President and Provost at Southwestern since 2006.  He assumed the role of Assistant Vice President for Academic Administration in 2015.  He also serves as Assistant Professor of Systematic Theology at Scarborough College.  He has served the church in a number of part-time roles and as pastoral supply.

Dr. James’ current research is in the area of eschatology, focusing specifically on the growing interest upon a renewed earth upon which the redeemed will live.  He is the author of New Creation Eschatology and the Land: A Survey of Contemporary Perspectives.  His research interests also include the nature of prophecies regarding the restoration of Israel. 

Dr. James completed the B.B.A. at the University of Georgia so he is a lifelong Georgia Bulldog fan.  After leaving Georgia for the state of Texas, he completed the M.Div., Th.M., and Ph.D. in Systematic Theology at Southwestern.  He is a member of the Evangelical Theological Society, the Society for Biblical Literature, and the National Association of Scholars.  Dr. James is married to Heather and they have four children, twins Annalee and Abigail (12), Samuel (10), and LilaRae (6).  Dr. James and his family are members of First Baptist Church Dallas where he currently teaches Sunday School and discipleship classes.
