Karen Kennemur serves as an associate professor of children’s ministry in the Jack D. Terry School of Educational Ministries. It is with great joy that she teaches and walks with her students as they learn to effectively minister to children and their families. Dr. Kennemur received her PhD in Childhood Education from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, her M.A. in Christian Education from SWBTS, and a Bachelor of Business Administration from Baylor University. Before teaching at SWBTS she served at several churches as a preschool and children’s minister, as well as, the director of a private Christian preschool.

Dr. Kennemur works closely with the Southern Baptist of Texas Convention where she writes and teaches for the church ministries division. She also serves on the Church Ministries Ministry Team for the SBTC. Dr. Kennemur was a contributing author in the 2nd edition of The Teaching Ministry of the Church (editor and author—Dr. Rick Yount, 2008) and Family Ministry and the Church: A Leader’s Guide for Ministry To, With, and Through Families (editor and author--Dr. Chris Shirley, 2018). She has written Sunday School, camp, and retreat curriculum. Dr. Kennemur serves on the board of the Baptist Association of Christian Educators. Her passion is mentoring students and preschool/children’s ministers plus helping children and families grow in their love for Christ as they participate in the Christian community.

She and her husband, Danny, live in Grand Prairie, TX. They are members of MacArthur Blvd. Baptist Church where Danny teaches in the preschool ministry and Karen works in the children’s ministry.  Danny and Karen have been married for 34 years and have three children, two daughters-in-law, and 4 grandchildren.
