Gregory A. Wills is Research Professor of Church History and Baptist Heritage, and Director of the B. H. Carroll Center for Baptist Heritage and Mission. He holds degrees from Duke University, Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, and Emory University. He is author of Democratic Religion: Freedom, Authority, and Church Discipline in the Baptist South, 1785-1900 and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, 1859-2009, both published by Oxford University Press.

From 1994 to 2019, he served in several roles at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, including Professor of Church History, Dean of the School of Theology, Vice-President for Institutional Research, and Archives and Special Collections Librarian.

He enjoys hunting, fishing, and hiking. He is husband of Cathy and father of Sam, Abby, James, and Maggie. He is currently writing a history of Southern Baptists for B&H Academic.
