"This Week on the Hill" is a weekly roundup of campus news, announcements, and events from Southwestern Seminary and Texas Baptist College.
Join us in welcoming Blake McKinney, assistant professor of history at Texas Baptist College.
"I knew that God had called me to a life of Kingdom work in my teenage years, but it was not until my last year of undergraduate study that I discerned that He was leading me to a life of academic service. Through a combination of influences during my senior year of college I came to realize that my gifting and passion dovetailed in teaching.
"I benefitted greatly from attending a theologically strong Baptist liberal arts university, and I am thrilled by the opportunity to lead students in the engagement of faith and learning. I was impressed by the vision the administration has for TBC, and I am excited to be a part of this Christ-centered, Scripture-driven, and Student-focused community. Furthermore, I am excited by the collegiality of the TBC faculty and the chance to cooperate across disciplines to engage the minds of TBC students.
"I am most excited about serving Christ and His Church through leading students to integrate faith and learning. Jesus promised that the gates of Hell will not prevail against His Church, and I have the joy of demonstrating the truth of that promise through the teaching of history. I look forward to helping students see their place in Christ’s Church through the ages."
The Southwestern Music Academy is excited to open enrollment for the Fall 2021 Semester! This semester will bring back the Children's Choir and add a Chime Ensemble. "Cyprien Yamuragiye was born crippled in the African nation of Rwanda, his hands and feet deformed and his right eye closed. He would become an outcast to the family and village that feared him, and his young life was marked by countless trials, trauma, and hopelessness. Any god who created him, Cyprien once thought, must be cruel.
'How can God be loving?' he asked. 'How can the God who made me this way be merciful?'”Read more.
