Jeff Iorg, president of Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary in Mill Valley, Calif., will be the chapel speaker at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, April 10. He will also deliver a class lecture on church planting the same day.

Chapel services convene in Truett Auditorium at 10:50 a.m. every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday during the spring and fall semesters. They are always free, and the public and media are welcome.

Iorg, a 1990 doctoral graduate of Southwestern Seminary, became the seventh president of Golden Gate Seminary in 2004 after serving as executive director/treasurer of the Northwest Baptist Convention.

While coordinating the cooperative work of the more than 400 churches in the convention, Iorg oversaw the construction of the Northwest Baptist Center where the convention offices and Golden Gate Seminary’s Pacific Northwest campus are located.

Before taking over the presidency, Iorg taught preaching, evangelism and leadership as an adjunct professor at Golden Gate’s Pacific Northwest Campus. In 1989, Iorg was the founding pastor of Greater Gresham Baptist Church in Gresham, Ore. The church helped model a new paradigm as a “culture current” Baptist churches in the Northwest, and has subsequently grown to be the largest English-language Southern Baptist church in Oregon.

Associate Professor of Missions Dan Morgan arranged for Iorg to be a guest lecturer in “Models of Church Planting” for one class at 9:30 a.m., in Fleming Hall Room 13,  April 10. The lecture is open to anyone who is interested in attending that day.

“(Dr. Iorg) will speak on his own experience planting a church in the Pacific Northwest, and about the need for new church plants in the West and other pioneer areas,” Morgan said.
