FORT WORTH, Texas (SWBTS) – Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary was grieved by the passing of Nannie Don Northcutt, May 10. Nannie died at the age of 88. She was the second wife of former seminary professor, dean and vice president Jesse James Northcutt.
Nannie was born on March 19, 1921, in Shreveport, La., and she was the only child to Edward and Alberta Beaty. She earned degrees from Baylor University and Southwestern Seminary, and she served as secretary for academic affairs for 34 years.
Nannie was married to her late husband, Dr. Jesse Northcutt, on Aug. 1, 1981. Dr. Northcutt began his studies at Southwestern Seminary in 1936 and joined the seminary’s faculty in 1944. He served as dean of the School of Theology for nearly two decades, and he became the E. Hermond Westmoreland Distinguished Professor of Preaching in 1978. He also served as vice president of academic affairs for six years, beginning in 1973. Dr. Northcutt died on Dec. 13, 1994.

Nannie was also preceded in death by her grandson, Lt. Peter Dave Flamming. She is survived by her stepdaughters and their husbands, Shirley and James Flamming of Richmond, Va., and Ann and Robert Cook of Owasso, Okla.; two grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.
