By day, Jim Wicker is a mild-mannered New Testament professor and administrator at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth. By night, he makes crowds roar with laughter.

Wicker, who often dazzles the crowd with sleight of hand magic tricks, is the first winner of the “Last Clean Comic Standing” competition at the F.R.O.G. Theatre in Fort Worth, next to the campus of Texas Christian University. He took the title and a cash prize Oct. 24.

Wicker’s routine included his portrayal of an old man explaining to the audience how to ride a unicycle, though the points of instruction didn’t exactly match up with the rider’s ability.

The “Last Clean Comic Standing” open mic competition is a monthly event. The next performance will take place at the theatre of the Artistic Blends Coffee Shop in Fort Worth Nov. 5. All acts must sign up prior to the contest and agree to follow a set of standards for clean comedy material.

Peter Wolf, a graduate of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, organizes and promotes the monthly comedy event. For more information about the contest, contact Peter Wolf at 817-423-3752 or by e-mail at, or on the Web at
