Brandon Brewer is serving a 60-year prison sentence in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice’s Connally Unit in Kenedy, Texas. Recently, he preached his first sermon to fellow inmates from the book of Luke.

“Starting today, we can be a beacon of light,” he promised his parishioners. “Even in one of the darkest places in the world, we can be a beacon of light."

Brewer was part of the third graduating class from Southwestern Seminary’s Darrington prison program in Rosharon, Texas. He was then deployed to Connally Unit, where he now serves as a field minister for other inmates. Connally Unit is one of 19 Texas prisons to host graduates from the Darrington program.
