First black graduate retires from long-term pastorate
FORT WORTH, Texas (SWBTS) – Rev. Marvin Griffin, the first black master’s graduate from Southwestern, plans to retire from his 42-year-long pastorate at the historic Ebenezer Baptist Church in Austin, Texas, effective July 31. The 88-year-old, who rode his bicycle to First Baptist Dallas to hear George W. Truett preach as a child, has been a pastor and community leader for 60 years.
