FORT WORTH, Texas (SWBTS) – In a first-person Baptist Press article, June 2, John M. Yeats, assistant professor of church history at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, expressed his concern with the multi-site church structure for Baptist churches.

Yeats said the multi-site methodology to church growth may affect the local church’s role “as a free church structure” by dividing its interests. He also cautions churches to make sure the “negatives and potential pitfalls are researched.”

Yeats gives suggestions for Baptist churches if they want to practice this methodology.

Yeats is co-author of Franchising McChurch: Feeding Our Obsession With Easy Christianity along with Thomas White, associate professor of systematic theology and vice president for student services and communications at Southwestern.
