FORT WORTH, Texas (SWBTS) – Many who attend church only on Easter Sunday never hear the full Gospel message, Richard Ross, professor of student ministry at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, said in a first-person article on Baptist Press.
“Those who only attend on Easter know Christ is risen,” Ross wrote. “They have heard that message every year. The resurrection is central to the Christian faith, but they need the rest of the story.”
According to Ross, the church should proclaim not only Christ who died and was raised, but also Christ who ascended into heaven 40 days after the resurrection and who now reigns in majesty. Preaching this message will counteract the “moral therapeutic deism” that has “stunted” the faith of Christians, especially among youth.
