Southwestern professor’s new book calls senior pastors to invest in youth ministry
The Southern Baptist TEXAN released a story, Jan. 28, about a new book by Richard Ross, professor of student ministry at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. The book, titled The Senior Pastor and the Reformation of Youth Ministry, expounds the role of senior pastors in unlocking “true reformation” in youth ministry.
“I believe in youth pastors,” Ross says. “The vast majority of them are sacrificially investing their lives to see teenagers join Christ in changing the world. But they do not have the voice, the pulpit or the influence to lead the entire congregation toward a true reformation in youth ministry.”
Ross writes in the book’s preface that only the senior pastor has that kind of influence. Addressing senior pastors, he says, “That is why this book is targeted specifically to you.”
