Southwestern Seminary announces spring 2022 chapel schedule

Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary released today its spring 2022 chapel schedule, which begins with convocation on Jan. 25. President Adam W. Greenway will speak during convocation, to be followed in successive chapels with Interim Provost David S. Dockery and Gregory A. Wills, the new dean of the School of Theology.

Featured pastors will be Rolland Slade, senior pastor of Meridian Baptist Church in El Cajon, California, and chairman of the Southern Baptist Convention Executive Committee; Brad Lewter, senior pastor of Grand Avenue Baptist Church, Fort Smith, Arkansas, and member of the Board of Trustees of Southwestern Seminary; Dwight McKissic, senior pastor of Cornerstone Church, Arlington, Texas, and Southwestern Seminary alumnus; Dean Inserra, lead pastor of City Church in Tallahassee, Florida; Brian K. Payne, pastor of Lakeview Baptist Church in Auburn, Alabama; and Michael Gossett, senior pastor of Green Acres Baptist Church in Tyler, Texas.

Southern Baptist denominational life will be represented by a wide variety of leaders. Four SBC entity representatives scheduled to speak are: O.S. Hawkins, president emeritus of GuideStone Financial Resources and Southwestern Seminary alumnus; D. Hance Dilbeck, president and CEO of GuideStone Financial Resources and Southwestern Seminary alumnus; Johnny M. Hunt, senior vice president for evangelism and leadership of the North American Mission Board; and Paul H. Chitwood, president of the International Mission Board. Three Baptist state convention executive directors are scheduled to speak: Nathan Lorick, Southern Baptists of Texas Convention; E. Todd Fisher, Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma and Southwestern Seminary alumnus; and W. Thomas Hammond Jr., Georgia Baptist Mission Board and Southwestern Seminary alumnus. Additionally, two Baptist associational leaders will speak: David Bowman, executive director of the Tarrant Baptist Association and Southwestern Seminary alumnus; and Matt Henslee, associational mission strategist of the Collin Baptist Association, Southwestern Seminary alumnus, and president of the 2022 SBC Pastors’ Conference.

Also scheduled to speak are other members of the administration and faculty of the seminary and college: M. Todd Bates, associate dean and professor of philosophy, Texas Baptist College; Kenneth Priest, director of the Hemphill Center for Church Revitalization; and Micah D. Carter, assistant professor of theology, Texas Baptist College.

Timothy George, a recent recipient of the Southwestern Seminary Lifetime Achievement Award, is also scheduled to speak. George is founding dean and distinguished professor of divinity at Beeson Divinity School of Samford University.

Chapel services are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10 a.m. (CT) in MacGorman Chapel located on the Southwestern Seminary campus in Fort Worth, Texas. Chapel may also be viewed live online at swbts.edu/live.
