About the Southwestern Music Academy

The Southwestern Music Academy was founded in 2004 by Dr. Jill Sprenger upon two goals – the pursuit of both excellence and fun in music making. Its purpose is to allow students of the SWBTS School of Church Music and Worship to use their abilities to teach others, developing the skills to enjoy the gift of music throughout their lives.

The SMA offers private instruction in piano, voice, guitar, strings, and various other instruments. The instructors are a dedicated and caring group of teachers who exemplify musical excellence by being advanced performers and trained teachers. In addition to weekly private lessons, we also have group classes to encourage community among the students.

The School of Church Music and Worship is an All-Steinway school. SMA students are taught on Steinway studio pianos and have the privilege to perform in Reynolds Hall on Steinway concert grand pianos.

In 2011, SMA became one of the first Founding Schools in the U.S. for the new Royal Conservatory of Music development program. RCM is a graded study curriculum with yearly assessments whereby a national standard of excellence can be celebrated by all music students.
