SWJT names “A Theology of Paul and His Letters” its 2021 Book of the Year
A Theology of Paul and His Letters by Douglas Moo has been named “Book of the Year” by the Southwestern Journal of Theology (SWJT), the theological academic journal of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Editor David S. Dockery announced today.
“We congratulate well-known New Testament scholar Douglas Moo on this worthy selection,” said Dockery, who is also interim provost of the seminary. “This brilliant work, which is certainly Moo’s magnum opus, reflects decades of research in the Pauline materials. It will serve Southwestern students and graduates, as well as many others across the global evangelical world, for decades to come.”
Moo currently serves as the Kenneth T. Wessner Professor of New Testament at Wheaton College’s School of Biblical and Theological Studies.
In addition to naming the Book of the Year, the recognitions, which began in 2020, honor the top books in 12 different categories as nominated by the faculties of Southwestern Seminary and Texas Baptist College (TBC). The 2021 selections represent 15 different publishers and include Southwestern Seminary and TBC faculty members who either authored, edited or contributed to publications.
“We congratulate a number of our colleagues whose works have received such positive reviews from a wide range of readers,” Dockery commented of the Southwestern Seminary faculty authored books that were recognized. “Living God’s Word (Zondervan), recently revised by senior professors Daniel Hays and Scott Duvall, was selected in the Discipleship/Spiritual Formation category. A multi-authored new history of Southern Baptist international missions, edited by John Massey, Mike Morris, and Madison Grace II, was chosen in the Baptist Studies category. Joseph Crider’s fine work on Scripture-Guided Worship was recognized as an honorable mention in the worship category. We also appreciate the fine contributions from Matt Queen and Carl Bradford to the volume on A History of Evangelism in North America.”
Additionally, Southwestern Seminary alumni Scott N. Callaham, Daniel R. Bare, and Robin Hadaway received honorable mentions for their 2021 published works.
Dockery added he is “grateful for the wide-ranging participation from Southwestern faculty members in each of the five schools related to the second annual SWJT Book of the Year recognitions.”
