Pray for Southwestern during campus-wide weekly prayer gatherings

Join faculty, students, and staff for campus-wide prayer beginning today, and every Monday, from 11:30 a.m. to noon in the rotunda of the B.H. Carroll Memorial Building. In fall 2022, Interim President David S. Dockery called the Southwestern community to prayer based on Psalm 90:17.

Faculty and students are also invited to pray at 9:40 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursday before chapel near the right side of the stage in MacGorman Chapel.


Fort Worth Hall Whirlyball Rodeo Tournament announced for Feb. 16

Join the Fort Worth Hall Whirlyball Rodeo Tournament on Feb 16 from 7:00-9:00 p.m. All Fort Worth Hall residents are invited to compete for the Cowboy Cup and Whirlyball, pizza, and soda will be provided. Contact Stephen Wells at swells@swbts.edu for carpool details.


Seminary Hill Bookstore book signing to feature Queen’s new book

 

The Seminary Hill Bookstore will be hosting a book signing on February 22 for Matt Queen’s new book, Recapturing Evangelism. The bookstore will be offering 30 percent off the book at the signing event only.


February Metochai meeting to feature Osborne

Ministry wives are invited to the Feb. 27 Metochai Meeting for fellowship and to learn from guest speaker, Peggy Osborne. The meeting will be from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in the Seelig Banquet Room.


Pitman to lead round table focusing on North American church planting

Vance Pitman, leader of the North American Mission Board Send Network, began as a church planter in Las Vegas, and now overseas many church plants all over North America. Join him for a round table discussion hosted by the World Missions Center on Feb. 28 at 10:00 a.m. where he will share his heart for church planting and will engage with students around the topic.

Women’s fellowship breakfast to be held Tuesday

Female students, faculty, staff, and student wives are invited to the monthly Women’s Fellowship Breakfast in the Women’s Center Feb. 14 from 7:30-9:00 a.m. The come and go gathering will include breakfast tacos.


Barnard Hall residents invited to participate in axe throwing night

Barnard Hall residents are invited to participate in the axe throwing night at the Burleson Axe Factory on Feb. 17 at 7:00 p.m. The best axe thrower will be awarded a prize at the end of the evening.

The Student Leadership Council encourages highly motivated students to bolster the Southwestern community to engage students and families by facilitating campus-wide events while building the kinds of relationships that promote discipleship and spiritual growth.

Crossover, an evangelistic outreach, will be June 5-9 in New Orleans, Louisiana, before the Southern Baptist Convention annual meeting. Students interested in participating should contact Carl Bradford at cbradford@swbts.edu or the Roy J. On Your Way Fellowship gathering announced for March 2

Are you considering “going on mission” with the North American Mission Board or the International Mission Board? Join the On Your Way Fellowship March 2 at 5:30 p.m. in M112 to ask preparation questions from those already on the field about how to best prepare to fulfill the Great Commandment.


Applications open for resident assistant positions for 2023-2024 academic year

Students who are interested in serving as a resident assistant in Fort Worth and Barnard Halls during the 2023-2024 academic year are invited to apply for consideration by March 3.

Residence Life announces film festival competition

Fort Worth Hall and Barnard Hall residents are invited to participate in the Residence Life Film Festival by filming and submitting an original short film to be screened during the March 24 Residence Life Film Festival at 6:00 p.m. in Truett Auditorium. Awards will be given in the categories of action (including sub-genres: science fiction, western), mystery, comedy, documentary, thriller, musical/music video, and foreign. Videos must be between 3-5 minutes long. The deadline for submissions is March 16.

February Elliott Coffee Talk to address SBC’s historical foundations of worship

The Elliott Coffee Talk with special guest Marc Brown, assistant professor of church music and worship, will be Feb. 17 at 10:00 a.m. at the Seminary Hill Bookstore. The discussion will focus on the historical foundations for church music and worship leader training within the Southern Baptist Convention. Coffee and cookies will be provided.


Registration for Oxford Summer Study Program is open

Come experience the sights and sounds of historic Britain this summer! Learn about the Reformers, Baptists, C.S. Lewis, C.H. Spurgeon, British preachers, and Modern Missions. Study theology, experience church history, and engage in evangelism with SWBTS professors.

The Oxford Summer Study Program will beJune 19 – July 1, 2023 and the cost for the trip is $4,400. Sign up by March 15 in order to secure enrollment. Enrollment includes travel, accommodations, & tuition. You can earn up to 6 hours of class credit for completing the program. Various college and seminary courses will be available during the Oxford Summer Study Program including: Baptist Heritage– BPTST 3203, Church History II– CHAHT 3113, Systematic Theology III– SYSTH 3073, Baptist History & Heritage–HIS 2213 and Systematic Theology III– THE 4043.

9Marks Weekender offered for course credit

Southwestern students can earn class credit by attending the Feb. 23-26 9Marks Weekender at High Pointe Baptist Church in Austin, Texas. The first 10 SWBTS students to register will receive $300 off their tuition for the class, The Church: Systematic Theology 3703, taught by Juan Sánchez, associate professor of theology and senior pastor of High Pointe Baptist Church.

Women on Mission to meet March 10

Consider joining us as we discuss experiences while living life on a mission, both stateside and internationally. WMC announces ‘A Sending Church Conference’

The World Missions Center is hosting “A Sending Church Conference” for pastors and leaders of local churches on March 16 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the Riley Center. RSVP here.

The World Missions Center values practical missional living. Mohler implores Christian higher education institutions to continue apostles’ teaching during Southwestern chapel message

As their primary duty, Christian higher education institutions should “assist the church” in the continuation of the church through a steadfast commitment to the apostles’ teaching, preached R. Albert Mohler Jr., president of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, during the Feb. 9 chapel service at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and Texas Baptist College.
