Prelude to Christmas to celebrate ‘Christ the Savior is Born’

Prelude to Christmas 2022

In effort to focus on the “true meaning of Christmas through Scripture and song,” the School of Church Music and Worship at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary will host the annual Prelude to Christmas concert on November 10 and 11 on its Fort Worth campus, said Joseph R. Crider, dean of the seminary’s SCMW.

The free event, which is open to the public, will focus on the theme “Christ the Savior is Born” during the Friday evening and Saturday matinee concerts.

Crider said that his excitement for the concert comes from the involvement of students from every degree level.

“This concert is one of my favorites of the year because all of the students in the SCMW,” Crider added, noting this includes “first-semester freshman at TBC to our Doctor of Musical Arts students” who are “actively involved.”

The students will perform in several groups and play “original arrangements of classic Christmas songs and hymns,” according to Crider.

“The faculty and students in the School of Church Music and Worship would be honored to host our friends and neighbors throughout the Metroplex to enjoy a wide variety of sacred songs of the Christmas season,” said Crider. “Our students are thrilled to serve our community in this special way.”

Tickets are free but must be reserved. For the Friday show, which begins at 7:30 p.m., reserve tickets here; for Saturday’s 2:00 p.m. performance, reserve tickets here. Both concerts will be held at Southwestern’s MacGorman Chapel and Performing Arts Center.
