Southwestern to present fourth annual Prelude to Christmas, Nov. 15, 16
Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary will host its 4th annual Prelude to Christmas musical celebration, a free concert for the community, produced by the seminary’s School of Church Music and Worship (SCMW) with two performances on Nov. 15 and 16.
This year’s concert, which is themed, “In the Fullness of Time,” will be directed by Chuck Lewis, professor of church music and worship and associate dean of the SCMW. It will feature a diversity of performances from a variety of different music groups on campus, including the Southwestern Music Academy’s 70-voice children’s choir and the Southwestern A Cappela group, among others.
Joe Crider, SCMW dean, expressed excitement for the upcoming event.
“We have tried to focus on a biblical theme that helps give a cohesive narrative to the songs and worship elements of the program,” Crider said. “The people who come will hear choirs, instrumentalists, our piano and guitar ensembles, solos, and small vocal ensembles. The musical offerings will demonstrate not only the variety of styles and genres that celebrate Christ’s birth, but also the musical and artistic diversity of our faculty and students.”
He also spoke of his enthusiasm for Lewis as the director.
“I’m so grateful for Dr. Chuck Lewis, who directs and produces this special program each year. He approaches the programming and purpose with a pastor’s heart.”
This year’s Prelude to Christmas will have two performances in the MacGorman Chapel on Friday, November 15 at 7:00 p.m., and on Saturday, November 16 at 2:00 p.m. Although the concerts are free, tickets are required. For tickets, click here.
