Under the leadership of President David S. Dockery, Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary has taken on the identity of being a campus of the “bowed head” and will continue that commitment to prayer by encouraging the Southwesterners around the world to participate in 24 hours dedicated to prayer for the institution.

“We are excited about the 24-hour prayer time on the Southwestern campus on March 30-31, 2026,” Dockery said. “The prayer time will end with everyone together on Tuesday afternoon, March 31, as we offer thanks to God for hearing our prayers and for His ongoing blessings and favor to Southwestern.”

Participants can visit the seminary website to sign up for 15-minute time slots starting Monday, March 30, at 5 p.m. and carrying through Tuesday afternoon at 5 p.m., when a final time of corporate prayer will be held on the Memorial Lawn. A prayer guide and prompts for each hour are also available, covering topics such as global missions, international students, faculty and administration, the spiritual lives of Southwesterners, and the academic programs at Southwestern. Times can be chosen based on the time or the topic.

Melana Monroe, director of prayer ministries at Southwestern, said Dockery and Chandler Snyder, vice president for institutional relations, voiced a desire for a time of prayer campus wide and remotely as important events approach. That led to the organization of the event, which Monroe said is for faculty, students, staff, alumni, friends, and supporters, locally and abroad.

“The sun never sets on Southwestern, and we hope our family around the world will join together in prayer,” Monroe said. “We will invest this 24 1/2 hours in prayer online, in person, in groups, or individually.”

Dockery said the time of prayer is an opportunity to give “thanks and praise to God for His providential kindness to Southwestern Seminary over the past 42 months,” and also pray for upcoming events such as Preview Day, the Board of Trustees meetings, an upcoming visit by SACSCOC, the spring Southwestern Advisory Council meeting, the Southern Baptist Convention annual meeting in June, and for Southwestern students graduating in May.

The 24 hours will end with a corporate time of prayer from 5 to 5:15 p.m. on March 31, followed by an Easter picnic on the Memorial Lawn at 5:30 p.m., with food and activities for the entire Southwestern community.
