TBC announces Foundations of Faith scholarship recipients

Texas Baptist College (TBC) announced Morgan Breeden, Keeton Charbonneau, and Tucker Sloan as this year’s recipients of the Foundations of Faith scholarship designed to support first-year students with a clear calling to ministry.

“As the dean of TBC, this scholarship is deeply meaningful. It represents our commitment to walk alongside young men and women whom God is calling, helping them lay strong biblical and theological foundations,” said Carl Bradford, saying it is a demonstration of the institution’s commitment to be student focused as well as Christ centered. “It’s a tangible expression of our belief in their potential and God’s purpose for their lives.”

Morgan Breeden, from Cuero, Texas, will start pursuing both her Bachelor of Arts in Christian Studies and Master of Divinity in the fall through the 5 year program offered at Southwestern. She said she has known about Southwestern and the education opportunities it offers, but it was not until her youth pastor encouraged her to tour TBC that she knew of the undergraduate program offerings as well.

“I ultimately chose TBC because I felt I would receive the most trustworthy and challenging theological education here, which I am eager to begin,” Breeden said.

Breeden applied for the Foundations of Faith scholarship as it seemed to be the perfect fit for what she seeks to pursue. Thankful for the ease in financial burden, Breeden said she will be able to better focus on her education while at TBC.

“Through the Christian Studies degree I plan to pursue at TBC, I hope to gain a deeper understanding of God that will lead me into an even deeper relationship with Him,” Breeden said.

Her goal is to participate in student ministry upon graduation, though she said she will go where the Lord calls.

“I am drawn to middle school and high school girls’ ministry as well as ministry through social media and tech,” Breeden said. “Ultimately, I know that a degree in Christian studies will help me serve and minister well wherever the Lord leads me.”

Keeton Charbonneau, from Hurst, Texas, will transfer to TBC as a junior in the 5 year undergraduate and Master of Divinity degree. He is coming to TBC with the desire to grow in biblical knowledge and ministry preparation, with a program that he sees as both rigorous and theologically grounded.

“After prayerful consideration, I believe that TBC offers the kind of Christ-centered community and resources that would help me thrive both spiritually and academically,” Charbonneau said.

Charbonneau said receiving the Foundations of Faith scholarship gives him a chance to focus on his goals while studying at TBC.

“Receiving this scholarship would greatly relieve financial pressure, allowing me to fully engage with my studies, serve in local ministry, and take advantage of all that TBC has to offer without distraction,” Charbonneau explained. “It would also affirm that I’m not walking this journey alone, and that others believe in the calling God has placed on my life.”

Charbonneau said he believes TBC will help him develop skills that will be applied to ministry.

“With the training I receive at TBC, I want to faithfully preach the Gospel, disciple others, and help build up the church both locally and globally as I pursue God’s calling on my life of full-time vocational ministry,” Charbonneau said. “Ultimately, I hope to be used by God wherever He leads, equipped with the biblical foundation and practical wisdom gained during my time at TBC.”

Sloan, a DFW native, said he is excited to begin his first year as a full-time college student. His father is a Southwestern alum and, after attending Preview Day in spring 2024 as well as taking dual-credit courses in high school offered by TBC, Sloan felt called to the campus.

“I felt the Lord leading me to continue my education here long term,” Sloan said.

With that decision, Sloan and his family began looking into scholarship opportunities. Sloan said learning he was a recipient of the TBC scholarship felt like an affirmation that the Lord had opened a door for him.

He said the scholarship is a “huge blessing” to both his family and him. “Personally, it has given me encouragement and a renewed sense of determination for the upcoming journey ahead of me.”

Sloan said he is excited at the potential for ministry opportunity Southwestern will provide.

“From an early age, I have felt God’s call on my life ‘to preach the gospel, not where Christ has already been named,’” Sloan quoted Romans 15:20. “I hope to receive training and strengthening at Texas Baptist College that will equip me for this glorious, difficult, refining, trying, and joyous task that the Lord has graced me with being a part of.”

“Recipients of the Foundations of Faith Scholarship embody the very heart of TBC,” said Bradford. “Students who are serious about the Gospel, active in their churches, and preparing to serve faithfully wherever God leads them. They represent hope for the future of the church and the continued advance of the Kingdom.”

The scholarship provides the recipients with full tuition for the first two semesters of enrollment.
